The plot

After stealing a mysterious orb in the far reaches of outer space, Peter Quill is now the main target of a manhunt led by the villain known as Ronan the Accuser.

What's right with it?

There is SO MUCH that could have gone wrong with this, take a bunch of characters that, to put it frankly, five years ago were only known by the most hardcore of Marvel fans. You're talking G-List level of characters

When this was announced there were many fans, me amongst them, that said there are lots of other characters that deserve a chance in the spotlight before these guys

and I am pleased to say that I was wrong and it so totally works!

Imagine the feeling you felt watching Star Wars, it doesn't matter which episode we're talking here, the very first one you saw in the cinema and watching that breathtaking imagery of alien worlds

Now add in some awesome characters, great comedy and probably THE best soundtrack in a movie by far and you have not only the best Marvel film so far (I'm serious, even better than Avengers) but one of the best sci-fi flicks too

Of course this is still part of the big Marvel grand scheme of things and in this it doesn't disappoint at all. Saying anymore would spoil things

What’s wrong with it?

It's a totally different feel of a film to any Marvel film before it and if you don't like Marvel films you might not like it

There is a barrage of information that is given in the middle of the film that can be confusing to people not following the films, so if you come in fresh you may have to do some homework

Best Scene?

Best Quote?

Groot - "I am Groot!"

Rhomann Dey - "They call themselves the Guardians of the Galaxy."
Nova Corps Officer - "What a bunch of a-holes."

Bonus Trivia

When Dave Bautista found out he got the role of Drax the Destroyer, he broke down in tears, overjoyed at getting a Marvel comic-book role. He immediately signed up for extra acting classes in order to prepare for the role.

According to Vin Diesel, the voice of Groot, he recorded Groot's iconic line, "I am Groot," over 1,000 times.

Chris Pratt went on a very strict training regimen and diet for 6 months and dropped another 60 pounds eventually getting a six pack for his shirtless scenes. Chris Pratt said that it was a lot of hard work, almost 'torturous', but when he was filming his shirtless scenes and saw the playback on the monitor, he felt the effort was well worth it and he was "extremely excited to see the best possible physical version of himself".

Bradley Cooper cited Tommy DeVito (Joe Pesci's character in Goodfellas (1990)) as an influence on Rocket Racoon's voice.

Adam Sandler, David Tennant, Sharlto Copley, Jim Carrey and H. Jon Benjamin were considered to voice Rocket Raccoon.

To prepare for the role of Nebula, Karen Gillan shaved her head. They also tried using her natural Scottish voice with the character but that didn't work

When Vin Diesel started recording his lines for Groot, he was pleasantly surprised to find himself working with an old friend - the sound technician he'd worked with on The Iron Giant (1999).

Vin Diesel recorded all of his "I am Groot" lines in several different languages, including Russian, Mandarin, Spanish, Brazilian, Portuguese, and French so that they could use his real voice in the film around the world.

Final Thoughts

This finally opens up the Marvel movie verse to some excellent cosmic characters and I am really looking forward to what they do with them

Also I see potential for Rocket and Groot to become icons after people see this, they could really do a Groot/Rocket film on their own after this and everyone would love it

My Advice?

Go and see it!
