My Top 10 Nintendo 64 Games
A while ago I posted my top ten favourite Gamecube games.
I thought it was about time for another top ten games list so here are my top ten favourite Nintendo 64 games.
Rules are one game per franchise, so if I picked LOZ:MM I also couldn't pick Ocarina of Time. Also counts towards Perfect Dark as it's the spiritual successor to GoldenEye
So with that on with the list!
10. Space Station Silicon Valley
This game is just downright wacky yo. You control a microchip that can take over the bodies of animals on a technologically advanced amusement park including Snowball chucking parachute penguins and their rocket powered king, a bear with a unicycle for legs and a ram on a spring
A superb puzzle game using blocks to build up reservoirs to store water and build up points
8. Diddy Kong Racing
A great racing game and one that I favour more than Mario Kart 64 due to the addition of hovercrafts, aeroplanes and a complex power up system that not only lets you know what power up you are actually getting unlike the randomness of MK but the more you collect without using them the more powerful they get
7. Mischief Makers
A quirky sidescrolling "shake-em-up" platformer with a glorious soundtrack
6. Turok 2: Seeds of Evil
Turok 1 was okay, but this really kicked it up a notch with better graphics, weapons plus it's based on the superb Valiant/Acclaim Joshua Fireseed Turok in the 90s, rather than Tal-Set from the earlier comics
5. Blast Corps
Take out buildings on the path of an out of control missile that could explode with the slightest ting. Add in some crazy extra levels including some in space and you get another exceptional Rare game
4. Perfect Dark
The spiritual successor to Goldeneye in everything but license, some pretty cool gadgets including a laptop gun and a weapon that can shoot through walls
3. Fighters Destiny
This uses a judo like system to win so the opponent could still take you out if he gets your health down but one well timed throw or special move could completely change the match in your favour. Plus you get to play as a Cow
2. Super mario 64
THE game that pioneered 3d platforming....Nuff said
1. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
Personally I think this is the better game out of this and Ocarina of Time. An incredibly dark storyline, a 3 day cycle which takes many play throughs to see all of and some marvellous game mechanics in the new transforming masks that can turn you into a Goron, Deku scrub, Zora and the all powerful Fierce Deity Link
Ones that almost made the list:
1080: Snowboarding, Banjo-Kazooie, Conker's Bad Fur Day, GoldenEye, Jet Force Gemini, Killer Instinct Gold, Kirby 64, LOZ: Ocarina of Time, StarFox 64: Lylat Wars, Mario Kart 64, Mystical Ninja Goemon, Shadow Man, Star Wars Episode 1 Racer, Shadows of the Empire, Wave Race 64 and Yoshi's Story
The games I picked and the ones I almost did just goes to show this truly was the Golden Age for RareWare studios.
So what do you think? Let me know in the comments section!
